It was a Friday night. The huddled masses cling together on the top floor of B. Good on Mass. Ave. to partake in live musical accomplishment. Emphasis on huddled, because the room could not fit the bands, let alone their die-hard fans.  But the lights dimmed and the opening band (which bore no name) electrified the scene with the one of the most refreshing sounds I have heard since moving to Boston. Lead by Charlie Porter, an eclectic and creative bass player, my ears were tickled by the heavy grooves of what could only be the product of Less Claypoole’s reserved sperm donations in the Back Bay area. Mere words could not possibly describe how great they sounded, and I only hope they obtain a band name because I’d personally love to follow them in their paths of aural decadence.

They set the tone for the rest of the night for me. Following this solid performance, was a Berklee Groove favorite, Megan Madara. I reviewed her album a few months ago, and was delighted to see her and her band in the flesh.  They played songs off her album Finally There, which if you haven’t bought yet, you should save up your dollars for, accompanied by a Phish cover. The band grooves well live, and they held down their performance with great stride, considering it was their first Boston gig together.

The crowd danced, laughed, and sang together, and the stairwell leading to B. Good’s lounge was crowded to hear such great music being performed by such talented individuals.  After a pleasant set, Megan was followed by Heiress and Dave Colicchio. Unfortunately, I could not stay for the rest of the performances. However, I will be looking up the other bands for future listening enjoyment.

All in All, It was certainly a good end to a long week of school and snow. If you are interested in listening to Megan’s Music, you can find her at www.meganmadara.com.

The group is sponsored by Becker Guitars, and you can see them rocking out with their custom axes.
